Print of the Month - January 2022
This Victorian New Year card is made up of three parts.
One of Joseph Mansell's Baxter Process prints has been stuck behind the central open window of the embossed and pierced card.
A hinged chromolithograph scrap of a young sailor has then been added in front of this maritime scene.
This type of card was probably made at home from separate components sourced from the local stationers and is typical of many cards from the 1860s.
This example measures 9.5 x 7 cm.
