One of 16 reward cards in a set of "reward pictures illustrating the Book of Proverbs".

As well as the picture on the front of the card there are proverbs on the front and songs on the back of the card.

Most of the reward cards printed by William Dickes were produced for the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge.

This is a rare example of a set of cards produced for other publishers.

This is also an example of a set of cards that were also produced in another language;

in this case Dutch, having been translated by the well known poet Jan Jakob Lodewijk ten Kate (see right).
