Print of the Month - March 2023

A floral group composed of nasturtium, convolvulus, roses, and other flowers.

Printed by George Baxter using his patent colour process from 1850. This print bears Baxter’s wording “The Queen’s Floral Needle Boxes” and was designed to be used on the lids of the outer boxes for needlebox sets.

This subject can be found with a plain white background or with various background colours and background patterns like the example shown above.

Baxter also designed similar subjects, on the same plate, for decorating the lids of the smaller boxes contained within the large needlebox. A set of three - one half size and 2 quarter size, and a set of 10 smaller subjects, one of which we show to the left.
