Print of the Month - October 2018
A Baxter process print published by William Dickes c1855.
One of nine prints with French titles printed on one sheet and as far as we know the only Dickes prints given French titles.
The use of French titles suggests that they might have been produced for the Great Exhibition held in Paris in 1855.
Originally catalogued by Courtney Lewis in "The Story of Picture printing in England during the Nineteenth Century" and by the Baxter Society in "The Baxter Times" as printed by the firm of Bradshaw & Blacklock.
This print was not catalogued in Alfred Docker's book "The Colour Prints of William Dickes" but he later identified it as by Dickes in an article published in "The Bazaar, Exchange & Mart" on June 3rd 1926.
L'Hiver is one of only two prints on the sheet that are unsigned.
