Print of the Month - April 2014

Printed in 1868 by William Dickes using the Baxter Process.

Used as the frontispiece in "A Book for the Household" published by Jarrold & Sons in the same year.

Jarrold & Sons issued a set of 12 "Books for the Household" in 1868. The prints used to illustrate them were often varied and so the same print does not always appear in the same book.

One suspects that the publishers had a stock of prints left over after publishing the books as they also issued the set of prints alone as a set of "Pictures for the Household".

Print size 12 x 8 cm.

Signed bottom right in 2 lines; “W Dickes, London.”
