Print of the Month - June 2019

A Chromolithograph printed by William Dickes in 1869 for publication in 'The Gentleman's Journal'.

This magazine was started by Mr E Harrison in 1869 as a "Magazine of Literature, Information and Amusement". It wasn't a great success, running from 1869 till it was discontinued in 1872.

During its short run William Dickes printed 15 colour plates for it. There were other colour plates in the magazine printed by Leighton Brothers.

By 1869 William Dickes had finished with the Baxter process in favour of cheaper methods.

Size: 26.5 x 17.5 cm.
